Whilst a leech holds on for a best a few days or weeks the incredible CM of Goa has held on to the Mining Ministry for an incredible 12 years
Eevn better hes done it AS A BJP AND CONGRESS MEMBER
even by standards of goan politics that's incredible
Hes not just Goas Mining minister

According to  comment on TOI, He has Marriage connections in to the Mining lobby

His daughter Deepali is married to Govindraj Dempo from the premier mining magnate family and his son Yogiraj Kamat is married to Neha from the mining family Timblo's.

Cant verify this but readers from Goa can
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Goa, headed by Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar, has indicted Kamat in its report. However, in spite of multiple allegations and complaints, Kamat has been insisting that there was nothing wrong in the state.

The allegations of Rs 10,000 crore mining scam in Goa has landed Kamat in the eye of a storm. Kamat, who has also been the mining minister of Goa for over a decade, has come under scanner for protecting the
mining lobby and has been accused of ignoring complaints.

The charges of large scale illegal mining activity in the state have the opposition up in arms against the chief minister.

Attacking Kamat, Parrikar said, "I will have to ask for the resignation of the chief minister, health minister, everyone has to resign. They are all part of the scam. The chief minister was mining minister for 11 years. He should take moral responsibility for the irregularities."

Not only the Opposition, but people within the Congress have also been after Kamat's head. With the state going to polls next year, the mining controversy could not have come at a worse time for the ruling party and the chief minister.

Congress leader & former deputy chief minister Dayanand Narvekar said, "Mining in Goa is not in the interest of aam admi. This wealth is only controlled by around 10 people getting about Rs 10,000 crore... the influence of the mining lobby on the whole establishment, that is how this whole system is corroded."

However, despite the allegations, the chief minister held his ground. "I do not agree with the figures. There could have been a mismatch," he said.

The Centre has already appointed a commission under retired Supreme Court judge Justice M.B. Shah to probe the matter. It is expected to submit its report in November 2011. In the meanwhile, pressure is already mounting on Kamat to resign.

According to the MLA who is a miner and politician, at least 1.3 million tonnes of iron ore was exported from Goa in 2010.

Salgaoncar also submitted documents that revealed that iron ore was exported before guidelines were implemented in Jul 2010.

The MLA will be charged Rs 30 crore in royalty along with interest, revealed the Mining Department. The department still has to decide if he will face any action or not.

Salgaoncar's confession comes after the news of illegal iron ore exported from Goa came into light.

The BJP on Sept 28 admitted that Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa was 'negligent' in putting a stop to the illegal iron ore export in the state during his tenure.

BJP further said that they thought it to be a mistake to give Digambar Kamat, then a minister in BJP, the mining portfolio's.

"We did not know that he (Kamat) was making money from the Mines portfolio," said Parsekar.

"it was negligence on part of Parrikar, then Chief Minister, to let this (illegal export of iron ore) happen," he said.

According to a report from the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG), at least 10.9 million metric tonnes of iron ore was exported from the Goan ports from 2004-2006 without paying royalty.
"I don't say our workers are not in the mining trade. If 80 per cent (of those in the trade) are from Congress, there could be 20 per cent from our party. But we don't support them," said Parsekar on the fact that there was possibility that few BJP supporters or well-wishers were involved in  mining trade.
