press trust of india

Lucknow, 7 April: As if the spectrum and the Commonwealth Games scams weren’t enough, the BJP today alleged that the Mayawati-led government in Uttar Pradesh was involved in scams to the tune of Rs 2.54 lakh crore and said the party would soon submit a report on it along with documentary evidence to the authorities concerned.

“In the first 'First Information Report' being submitted to state president Surya Pratap Shahi, 100 major scams of Mayawati government amounting to Rs 2.54 lakh crore have been included,” BJP national secretary Mr Kirit Somaiya told reporters here.

Based on this FIR, the party will now submit a “chargesheet” to Shahi along with the “documentary evidences” on 12 June, he said. “The report would also be submitted to CAG, CVC and if required, it would be presented in court as well.” Mr Somaiya said details of these scams were collected over a period of two months after visiting 22 districts in the state.

The BJP leader said there were scams “worth Rs 54,000 crore in allotment of land in Noida” and land was given to choicest people at throw away prices.

“Mills having market value of Rs 600 to Rs 800 crore were sold for Rs 14.11 crore. The party will issue a special detailed report on this in next 10 days,” he said, adding there were scams in MGNREGA, pensions, scholarships, power sector and even monuments. “It is my open allegation that if a thorough inquiry of Swiss bank accounts and black money is done, names of several BSP ministers will be revealed,” he said.

During construction of monuments, stones which actually cost Rs 400 per square feet were purchased at the rate of Rs 4000 per square feet, whereas statue of Elephant which originally cost Rs 10 lakh was bought for Rs 90 lakh, Mr Somaiya alleged. “We have information regarding 235 scams of Mayawati government, but in the first phase only 100 have been taken.” He said that scams of Mayawati government were “bigger than 2G spectrum and CWG scams”. “While 2G and CWG combined are that of Rs 2.46 lakh crore, Mayawati government scams total to Rs 2.54 lakh crore,” the BJP leader alleged.
UP ministers resign

Uttar Pradesh family welfare minister Mr Babu Singh Khushwaha and health minister Mr Anant Kumar Mishra today resigned from the Cabinet, owning moral responsibility for the irregularities detected in their departments after the murder of a state CMO.

“Taking moral responsibility for the irregularities in their respective departments both the ministers have willingly send their resignations to chief minister Miss Mayawati, which has been forwarded to Governor BL Joshi,” Cabinet Secretary Mr Shashank Shekhar Singh told reporters here. Chief Medical Officer of family welfare BP Singh was shot dead on 2 April near his house during a morning walk.
